U.S. Capitol BuildingConservation district leaders from around the country gathered in Washington, D.C., this week for the National Association of Conservation Districts' 2009 Board Meeting and Legislative Conference. This popular annual event allows NACD members to learn more about the policy issues impacting conservation and the Obama Administration's natural resources agenda, and to interact with their representatives on Capitol Hill.

This year's program offered attendees the opportunity to hear from a number of notable speakers, including: NRCS Chief Dave White; Department of the Interior's Anne Castle, Assistant Secretary of Water and Science; Ned Farquhar, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Lands and Minerals Management; E Larry Elworth, Agriculture Advisor to the Administration; U.S. Forest Service's Paul Ries, Director of Cooperative Forestry; Anne Simmons, Senior Professional Staff for the House Agriculture Committee; Tina May, Professional Staff for the Senate Agriculture Committee; USDA Global Change Program Office Director Bill Hohenstein; USDA Deputy Chief of Staff Carole Jett; and USDA Natural Resources and Environment Deputy Under Secretary Ann Mills.

The meeting concluded Tuesday night with NACD's 3rd Annual Capitol Hill Congressional Reception, which allowed members to network with Congressional staff members at the historic Russell Senate Office Building.
