2008 NACD Legislative Conference • July 18 - 23, 2008 • Washington, D.C.
NACD’s 2008 Summer Board Meeting and Legislative Conference offers action-packed days are sure to challenge you to think and wear you out!
The joint meeting will kick start with the arrival of the Renovation Ride participants on Friday, July 18, 2008. The riders will have bicycled from Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania to Washington, D.C.—a total of 258 miles—to raise money to renovate NACD’s Washington Headquarters.
The Board Meeting will begin on Saturday, July 19. Saturday will be particularly exciting in Washington, D.C. as it is the scheduled opening of the Dig It! The Secrets of Soil exhibit at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History. NACD is coordinating with the Smithsonian and the Soil Science Society of America on exhibit materials and is working to arrange private tours of the exhibit during the conference.
Sunday will mark the official kickoff of the Legislative Conference with a Welcome Reception following a full day of Board of Directors and Foundation Committee Meetings. The Conference will continue with a full speaker program on Monday featuring Administration officials, Congressional staff and agency leaders. Tours are in the works for Monday evening.
Tuesday gives your state delegation an opportunity to head to Capitol Hill for meetings with your state’s Senators and Representatives. NACD will equip you with materials and talking points regarding national conservation priorities.
The conference will conclude with our 2nd Annual Congressional Reception. The reception will be held on Capitol Hill and offers an excellent opportunity to invite your Congressional delegation and their staff for additional networking and visiting.
