National Association of Conservation Districts

NACD's mission is to serve conservation districts by providing national leadership and a unified voice for natural resource conservation.

Wildlife Partners and Resources

There is a wide array of partners and projects available to help districts work with individuals and local communities to protect natural resources in a way that preserves and enhances wildlife habitat. The following is a list of the more commonly known agencies and organizations along with brief descriptions of their respective missions and a link to their websites.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service - www.fws.gov
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is a bureau within the Department of the Interior whose mission is to work with others to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.

NRCS Agricultural Wildlife Conservation Center - www.whmi.nrcs.usda.gov
The Agricultural Wildlife Conservation Center was established to administer Fish and Wildlife Conservation Grants, and provide information on programs, technical resources and partners.

USDA National Agroforestry Center – www.unl.edu/nac/wildlife.htm
The USDA National Agroforestry Center is a Forest Service and Natural Resources Conservation Service partnership effort that accelerates the application of agroforestry through a national network of partners. USDA NAC conducts research, develops technologies and tools, coordinates demonstrations and training and provides useful information to natural resource professionals. National Fish and Wildlife Foundation – www.nfwf.org
The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation sustains, restores and enhances the Nation's fish, wildlife, plants and habitats through leadership conservation investments with public and private partners. Since its establishment, NFWF has awarded nearly 9,500 grants to over 3,000 organizations in the United States and abroad and leveraged – with its partners – more than $400 million in federal funds into over $1.3 billion for conservation. 

National Wild Turkey Federation – www.nwtf.org
The National Wild Turkey Federation is a grassroots, nonprofit organization with 584,000 members in 50 states, Canada, Mexico and 14 other foreign countries. It supports scientific wildlife management on public, private and corporate lands as well as wild turkey hunting as a traditional North American sport.

The Nature Conservancy – www.nature.org
The Nature Conservancy’s mission is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.

Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies – www.fishwildlife.org
The Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies represents all of North America’s fish and wildlife agencies to promote sound management and conservation, and speak with a unified voice on important fish and wildlife issues.

Wildlife Habitat Council – www.wildlifehc.org
The Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) is a nonprofit, non-lobbying 501(c)(3) group of corporations, conservation organizations and individuals dedicated to restoring and enhancing wildlife habitat. WHC helps large landowners, particularly corporations, manage their unused lands in an ecologically sensitive manner for the benefit of wildlife.

The Wildlife Management Instituteis a private, nonprofit, scientific and educational organization, dedicated to the conservation, enhancement and professional management of North America's wildlife and other natural resources through advocacy, policy, research and education.

National Wildlife Federation – www.nwf.org
The National Wildlife Federation is an individual membership organization that provides advocacy, information, education materials and state affiliates.

Izaak Walton League – www.iwla.org
The mission of the Izaak Walton League is to conserve, maintain, protect, and restore the soil, forest, water, and other natural resources of the United States and other lands, and to promote means and opportunities for the education of the public with respect to such resources and their enjoyment and wholesome utilization.

Ducks Unlimited – www.ducks.org
Ducks Unlimited conserves, restores and manages wetlands and associated habitats for North America's waterfowl, habitats also benefit other wildlife and people.

Pheasants Forever – www.pheasantsforever.org
Pheasants Forever is dedicated to the conservation of pheasants, quail and other wildlife through habitat improvements, public awareness, education and land management policies and programs.

Project WILD – www.projectwild.org
Project WILD's mission is to provide wildlife-based conservation and environmental education that fosters responsible actions toward wildlife and related natural resources. The goal of Project WILD is to assist learners of any age in developing awareness, knowledge, skills and commitment to result in informed decisions, responsible behavior and constructive actions concerning wildlife and the environment upon which all life depends.
