July 16, 2007 – Support for Removal of Farm Bill Provision

TO:

Chairman Collin Peterson
Agriculture Committee
U.S. House of Representatives

Ranking Member Bob Goodlatte
Agriculture Committee
U.S. House of Representatives

Dear Chairman Peterson and Ranking Member Goodlatte:

On behalf of the members of the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD), I would like to thank you for removing the provision of your Conservation Title of the Farm Bill that altered conservation program administration.

NACD members felt strongly that any action to alter in the administration of conservation programs should only be taken with full understanding of the new roles of each party and impact to producers that utilize these important programs.

NACD remains committed to discussing issues of program delivery, greater efficiencies and meeting our producer-customer needs in protecting our natural resources.  NACD believes that there are programmatic efficiencies to be gained, such as through program consolidation and we look forward to continued discussions on all of these issues.

Sincerely,

Olin Sims
President
