GLENN COUNTY, CA – Ice cream, fire engines, and a helicopter landing—what more could you ask for on a summer evening in June?
The Glenn County Resource Conservation District (RCD), Elk Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Tehama-Glenn Firesafe Council, and partners invite the community to the Annual Elk Creek Ice Cream Social – Wildfire Awareness & Meet Your First Responders on Friday, June 12, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Elk Creek High School Football Field, 3430 Co Rd 309 in Elk Creek, CA.
Since its debut in 2019, this family-friendly event has become a local favorite—bringing neighbors together for a relaxed evening with a serious purpose: helping the community stay prepared and protected during wildfire season.
What to Expect:
• Free ice cream and community connection
• Up-close access to fire engines and emergency equipment
• A CAL FIRE helicopter demonstration (pending availability)
• Demonstrations and practical tips on protecting your home, land, and livestock
• Meet and talk with the first responders who serve your community
• Fun, hands-on activities for kids of all ages
“This event is about more than just ice cream,” said Kandi Manhart-Belding, Executive Officer, Glenn County RCD. “It is about building relationships, sharing knowledge, connecting community with First Responders and making sure our community is ready for wildfire season.”
Whether you are a longtime resident, new to the area, or just curious about wildfire preparedness, this event offers something valuable—and enjoyable—for everyone.
