Arkansas Soil Health Alliance Annual Meeting

Producers are invited to participate in the joint Healthy Soils for Sustainable Cotton winter meeting and Arkansas Soil Health Alliance Annual Meeting, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., February 25, at Hoots BBQ, 2008 US-65, McGehee. A farmer panel, lunch speaker and on-farm tour will help cotton growers evaluate and improve the impact of strong soil health management systems.

The information-packed meeting will include:
• How to improve nutrient and water management with cover crops;
• How to apply for soil health funding from the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS);
• Soil Health management tips from Arkansas cotton growers, including Sam Whitaker, Steve Stevens and Robby Bevis;
• Stevens/Kirkpatrick Farm Tour with discussions of equipment and soil sampling for soil health.
Although the meeting will focus primarily on cotton, all farmers interested in improving soil health are invited to attend. The meeting is hosted by the Arkansas Association of Conservation Districts and lunch will be provided.  RSVP to Debbie Moreland at debbiepinreal[at]aol.com
