Tour: San Antonio Food Bank’s Farms

Thursday, February 19, 2026 | 12:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. CT

Join us for a tour of the San Antonio Food Bank’s farms: their urban farm at their warehouse facility in San Antonio, and their Mission San Juan farm where they cultivate 50 acres in a unique partnership with the National Park Service. The San Antonio Food Bank is a nonprofit organization addressing hunger and food security in San Antonio and southwest Texas. They serve 100,000 individuals a week and are one of the largest service areas in Texas.

From the hotel, tour participants will travel 15 minutes to the San Antonio Food Bank’s urban farm. There the food bank produces annual crops and practices cover cropping and crop rotation. Next, participants will travel 20 minutes to visit the Mission San Juan farm to tour the orchards and a historic demonstration garden irrigated by a 300-year-old acequia. Crops are grown organically at both sites, and participants will also have a chance to see a steerable cultivator used as a weed suppression strategy without herbicides at the Mission San Juan farm.

The tour will include walking and standing outside. Dress appropriately for the weather, which can be variable in San Antonio at this time of year, and wear comfortable shoes. Bus transport for the entire tour is included in the ticket cost. Buses will depart the hotel at 12:30 p.m., and return to the hotel by 5:00 p.m. Please board buses at least 15 minutes before departure.

Tickets are $75.00 per person and only 100 tickets are available.
