On July 25, 1946 at the Morrison Hotel in Chicago, Illinois, 18 representatives from 17 states created the National Association of Soil Conservation District Governing Officials. In 1970, during the annual convention in San Francisco, the association’s name was shortened to the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD).

If you’re using the L Train, from Midway International Airport (MDW) take the orange line inbound to Roosevelt station, transfer to the red line inbound toward Howard to Grand station and follow signs for the NE exit. From O’Hare International Airport (ORD) take the blue line inbound toward Forest Park to the Jackson station, transfer to the red line inbound towards Howard to Grand station and follow signs for the NE exit. From Grand station, it is about a 10 minute walk to the hotel. See the map here.
Things to Do: Located within the hotel is the HotHouse and Made Market, where you can relax over cocktails, enjoy sweet and savory plates meant for sharing, or grab a quick meal to take on your next adventure. The market also serves Starbucks coffee and refreshments. To see more restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, view this document. The state of Illinois and the city of Chicago have announced revised public health guidance for fully vaccinated individuals and have been in the process of reopening businesses and institutions from restrictions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This means large events such as NACD’s Summer Conservation Forum can be conducted without social distancing requirements or mask mandates. NACD will be providing a mask to each individual registered to attend the meeting for their own personal use and comfort. We expect that some attendees will wish to continue to wear masks in public spaces for a variety of reasons and we ask that all attendees respect individual needs regarding masks.
As the second-largest NACD event of the year, the gathering brings together hundreds of conservation district leaders from across the nation, including tribal representatives and representatives from the U.S. territories.
The agenda includes a full NACD board meeting, a 75th Anniversary Celebration event, a conservation forum plenary session and a set of conservation-minded tours. This is a national meeting with a regional flair that offers a first-hand look at how conservation is delivered while also providing direct access to our top leaders.
