NACD SUBMITS COMMENTS
TO NRCS ON WESTERN
WATER QUANTITY

WASHINGTON – Today, the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) submitted written comments to the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in response to the agency’s request for comments on agency programs and Western water quantity.

“NACD is pleased that NRCS is taking efforts to ensure that farm bill conservation programs are well suited to address local conservation needs,” NACD President Tim Palmer said. “Water quantity concerns exist across the country but are perhaps most acute in the Western United States.”

NACD’s comments emphasize that through the locally-led conservation delivery process and conservation district-led Local Work Groups, all conservation programs can be best tailored to ensure local needs are addressed.

“That is ultimately the best way to ensure NRCS’s goals of addressing water quantity concerns in the West and across the country,” Palmer said.

Today’s written comments echo oral testimony provided by NACD President-elect Michael Crowder during an NRCS virtual public listening session on December 17, 2020.
