This summer, Norma Wong, is transitioning to a purposeful new life; her goals are to be of service and volunteer on projects that align with her passion for environmental stewardship and community engagement. Having spent years in business development, marketing, and sales, she’s now turning her focus towards a purpose-driven journey, dedicated to creating positive change.
Her journey towards this new chapter began several years ago when she established a yoga studio, which has since become a sanctuary for her and the local community. She finds solace in yoga and nature, nurturing both mental and physical well-being. Through her studio, she cultivates an environment where art, poetry, and community meet, fostering a holistic approach to wellness.
Inspired by regenerative concepts from the movie “Common Ground” and the book “Regenerative Business,” she’s been educating herself about sustainable practices. At home, she has been learning the medicine that caring for her herb garden can provided. She experiments with composting and natural fertilizers. This newfound connection to the earth sparked a dream: to help seniors and low-income families create their own herb gardens. These small green spaces, she believes, not only encourages a sense of community but also offer an accessible and inclusive way to connect with nature.
Her dedication to sustainable practices extends beyond her garden. She practices Agnihotra Fire Meditation, an ancient technique designed to purify the atmosphere through a specific fire ritual. This meditation is also used in Homa Organic Farming and would love to share this Fire meditation to those interested.
Living in the Las Cruces and El Paso area, she’s witnessed the adverse effects of widespread construction and sandstorms. The disruption of topsoil and construction projects are taking a toll on the environment and compromising public health. These experiences have solidified her belief in the importance of reconnecting with nature and promoting sustainability in local communities.
Recognizing that the digital age often leads to disconnection from nature, she aims to inspire others to rediscover the beauty and value of the natural world. In a society increasingly dominated by technology, she sees a need for a movement that uses nature as a source of healing. Her vision includes building a community around shared experiences in nature, raising awareness about where food comes from, and advocating for regenerative practices.
Her mission is to channel her expertise and passion into projects that promote a regenerative way of thinking. She plans to volunteer in initiatives that encourage herb gardening in limited spaces and educate others about the environmental issues affecting their communities. By doing so, she hopes to contribute to a brighter, more sustainable future where nature is valued, and communities grow stronger through shared experiences and stewardship.
